Every day is a new day. As the sun rises we have the opportunity to learn something new, do something fun, meet new people, or anything that comes our way. Tuesday and Wednesday were chalk full of fun and excitement at the new staff began learning the skills they’ll need throughout the summer. The counselors went through different lessons on disabilities, how to maintain good camper personal hygiene, and emergency procedures. Because we are a family here at Camp Krem, the admin staff strives to run these sessions in a manner that allows the staff to take in new information, yet feel relaxed and stress free (check out our photo album and watch our counselors grow!). There’s no question about it, counselor orientation week is vital to provide the very best services to all of our wonderful campers. It’s not very common that one has to change the diaper of another person or help with showering. This is why we set the bar high and help our staff keep it there—resulting in a successful and beneficial camping experience for our campers. Of course there’s a lot more to counselor week than workshops and lessons. Throughout the week various team building exercises and outing help the staff bond and develop a sense of trust among each other. Activities like our traditional Temple of Boom or the night under the stars bring us closer together every day. Last night we all took our sleeping bags down to Outdoor Camp (ODC). We camped out and ate some delicious smores (thanks Abbey, our ODC director!). Wandering from group to group it was amazing to see each staff member participating in conversation, songs, and games; It was as if we had all been friends for years. The laughter seemed to go on forever. As everyone crawled up into their sleeping bags, another day came to an end—a perfect example of how Camp Krem finds a way to bring out the very best in everyone.
