It does not matter who you talk to. The nerves are there. The ride up the hill is just more than a half mile driving almost as fast as one could run. Today was the first day of counselor orientation and about half of the staff are first timers. The rest of the staff was a first timer at some point in their lives. For some of us it is harder than others to remember what it was like to be new. Most of us knew no one. Some of us may have been lucky to have a friend. If you were fortunate you caught a whisper of what camp is like. Maybe you heard a story of a camper or about the travel camp. Maybe you heard about the trips to Lake Tahoe. Or maybe you were as clueless as the day you were born. This is the start of a journey that is six sessions short and one fast summer. We come from all over the world including Ireland, New York, New Zealand and California. The journey started with just ourselves and today we met our family for the summer of 2010. On day one all you know is that you and the person next to you are about to love on campers with special needs. At the end of sixth session that person may very well be your best friend.
Brian, well done sir. Quite a writer, and I'm gonna been following!
