Take a walk through camp two days before campers arrive. Every mattress is spotless, every floor bleached white and every piece of equipment is neatly organized. Walk through arts and crafts, around the pool or up pipeline and there is not a piece of garbage to be seen. If you walk long enough on that Friday evening you will find a calm that is rather peaceful and fulfilling. As you open your eyes you realize it is Sunday and the campers are on the way up the hill. Before you know it a bus drops off nearly 40 campers, luggage and all, in addition to the 40 that were already there! What occurs next is commonly referred to as organized chaos. Fun organized chaos. Everybody scrambles for the bed of choice and rushes off to his or her favorite activity. Counselors and staff stumble into structured activities to provide the day that every camper deserves. Lunch is served. Dinner quickly follows and believe it or not the camp fire is right in front of us. Every person is singing and providing introductions. The levels of engagement are astonishing. Session 1 is upon us. Energy levels are high, expectations are great and the campers are about to have the time of their lives.
