For more than three years now there has been a song that has been playing at camp. Camp Krem does not endorse this song nor does it affiliate itself with this band or any sort of music in that case. Still, somehow this song has been passed down from each generation of camp’s staff through four different summers. When Wagon Wheel comes on at camp you’ll usually find the sun setting over the western mountain ranges and the lights dimming for the night. This is a song that does not require encores or chants for one more song. When Wagon Wheel blasts through the speakers everybody understands that the night is coming to a close. It is the type of song that everybody can agree to get up, circle up and dance to. It is the type of song that allows you to forget what genre of music you like and dislike. When the song comes on everybody comes together as one single group. I am not really sure how to explain why it is music can bring people together like this. If you searched through Google you could probably find loads of dissertations on this topic, but you do not need a degree to recognize the fact that music can be something incredibly special. At Camp Krem music plays a big role in the daily activities at Main Camp. If music is playing in the mess hall it can draw crowds from the playground, arts and crafts, and the cabin area. Music can dissipate those everyday worries that can sometimes get to be too much. The many different groups always seem to join together when the speakers are turned up. There are so many great things to see at camp but if you ever get the chance to visit, stay for a night activity that involves music. It’s a sight to see and a chance to be a part of something extraordinary.
